I own and conduct a successful swimming pool leak detection business in Perth (Western Australia), a city with over one million people and about 80,000 swimming pools.
I established Leak Detectives in early 2001. The business is a small one-person business that complies with all government regulations. Perth is now adequately serviced by two pool leak detection businesses.
Pool leak detection is a seasonal business. Summer is hectic. The rainy winter months are quiet. The ideal time for the apprenticeship is spring (August to October) or autumn/fall (March to May).
Expressions of interest are invited from overseas individuals seeking to learn "hands on" all about swimming pool leak detection.
The apprentice will learn all aspects of leak detection: pressure testing, locating hidden plumbing leaks using electronic equipment, obtaining knowledge of, and experience in locating leaks in pool shells, whether fibreglass, concrete, or vinyl liner, and repairing these leaks. The apprentice will become fully skilled and informed and thus able to start up his/her own pool leak detection business.
A 'complete' apprenticeship should take about five to six weeks. It will be up to the apprentice to decide whether he/she has "seen enough". The costs of apprenticeship are negotiable. Apart from accommodation costs, there may be some additional expenses such as purchasing safety boots, goggles, weight belt, etc.
Perth is a modern, clean and safe city with frequent international flights. Accommodation can be arranged to suit any budget. There are plenty of tourist attractions and activities for a partner or family.
